Share the Love with this Chai Tea Latte Recipe

Chai is the Hindi word for tea and it originally defined a mix of spices brewed for health benefits in India. Cinnamon, cardamom, cloves, ginger and black peppercorns originally made up traditional “Masala chai”, with black tea leaves later added to the mix. Today’s chai mixes combine this spiced tea with sweetener and milk to create a creamy spiced drink that can range from earthy to savory depending on the blend.

Chances are, the last time you ordered a Chai Latte, you got something little too sweet and lacking in spice. Chai flavored syrup and mixes, while delicious, don’t pull the same weight as the real thing. You’ll understand once you try out this great recipe!

Passport’s Chai Americana incorporates all these wonderful flavors in loose leaf. Making your own chai tea latte at home using our blend provides all of the traditional spice and richness of the tea, combined with the milky frothiness of a latte. Plus it will make your house smelling great in no time!

So grab some Chai Americana (or Vanilla Chai if you want to try something sweet!), milk or favorite milk substitute, and get cooking!

Chai Tea Latte Recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 2 tea bags (we offer some options here and here)
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons refrigerated French vanilla nondairy creamer or plain 1/2 and 1/2
  • Optional: whipped cream and ground nutmeg for garnishing

Step 1: Measure out 2 tea bags with 2 tb of chai tea each.

Step 2: Add tea bags, cinnamon, ginger, and allspice to a saucepan along with 2 cups of water. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Simmer for 5 minutes, then steep with the heat off for 5 more minutes.

Alternatively, you can put the mix of tea and spices in a filter in your drip coffee maker, and brew.

Step 3: Remove the teabags and allow the spices to steep for another 15 minutes. Strain the mixture into another container.

Step 4: In a separate saucepan, combine milk, brown sugar, and creamer over medium heat. Stir until sugar is completely dissolved.

Step 5: Pour the milk mixture into mugs, and stir in the tea.

Step 6: Add whipped cream to the top and voilà! Impress all of your followers on social media, and make even your closest friends just a little jealous.
