Looking back at the original Irish coffee recipes one find Joe Sheidan’s recipe.
Here is a little history about Irish Coffee which started in the 1940’s. The Shannon Airport in Ireland which regularly received passengers from the U.S. including Hollywood stars and important political figures had a new restaurant. The restaurant had a young chef named Joe Sheridan. During a weather storm passengers arrived at night cold and tired. Chef Joe went to work creating a coffee drink to warm the passengers this drink was Irish Coffee.
Later Jack Koeppler, then-owner of the Buena Vista, challenged international travel writer Stanton Delaplane to help re-create a highly touted “Irish Coffee” served at Shannon Airport in Ireland. It took quite a while to master the recipe which included traveling back to Shannon Airport. Today the famous drink is still enjoyed.
